Manual Film Repairing
It’s the first important phase of film restoration process for damaged films. In this process, all splices are checked and if necessary, repaired. Breakages and tears on images are cleaned and all perforations are checked and bad perforations repaired. While this process aims to prepare film for scanning process, it also improves the condition of film stock for preservation.
Chemically Damaged Film Treatment
Chemical deterioration causes visual and physical transformations on film which reduces functionality and originality of emission, in some cases this can cause the destruction of film material especially in nitrate film. With our softening and rehydration process, damaged film can be temporarily treated and prepared for film scanning in order to obtain digital master.
Ultrasonic Cleaning
Before scanning, we recommend Ultrasonic Cleaning process in order to clean film from tears, dusts and some chemicals. We use industry leading LIPSNER SMITH CL9220 ultrasonic cleaner with most advanced cleaning liquids 3M Novec 8200 Engineered Fluid.
Scanning
We have three suits of film scanning, equipped with state of art two DFT SPIRIT 4K and one DFT SPIRIT 2K scanner that offers real 4K image. Unlike other bayer pattern CMOS scanners that causes resolution lost after debayering process, SPIRIT scanners uses 3 RGB Line Array CCDs that provides true 4K resolution, wider dynamic range and low signal-noise ratio.
SPIRIT Scanners give us the ability to color grade film scene by scene while scanning process. So all the adjustments (illumination, exposure, primary and secondary color grading) can be made on the fly for each scene in 4K, 2K and HD resolutions with DaVinci 2K Plus and Pandora Platinum controller systems.
Digital Restoration
We can remove 85-90% of dust, scratch and spots in real-time up to 4K, by using our unique Artificial Intelligence alghoritms, developed by our team. Our neural network hardware can learn, compare and remove dust and scratches without any artifacts. We also use advanced hardware equipments connected to scanners with specialized algorithms such as DVNR2K with AGR4 and ASC3 automated dust, scratch and grain reducers, Cintel IMAGEMILL Steady & Grace film stabilisation and grain reducer, Xantus Image Restore hardware and industry standard film restoration softwares. In some critical cases, we additionally use compositing and matte paint softwares.
The restoration process of a film consist:
* Image Stabilisation
* Deflickering
* Degrain & Denoise
* Dust & Scratch Removal
* Aperture Correction
* Color Grading
Audio Scanning
We can scan all Analog & Digital film sound formats. Our Spirit scanners were equipped with high quality 35mm - 16mm optical and magnetic soundheads with built-in low pass filters and also custom made Dolby Digital, Dolby Surround EX and DTS soundhead developed by our engineers. Digital sound is decoded and processed by our Dolby CP650 Processors.
4K Color Grading
Color Grading is most critical issue that must reflect correctly all the aspects of a film movie whether classical or new. Our colorists have a good experience about grading different film stocks and materials.
Our color Grading suites are equipped with:
* DaVinci Resolve Linux and Mac based 4K Real-Time color grading - Resolution independent for film scans or digital cameras
* Sony CineAlta True 4K DCI Projector with Harkness Screen
* Sony Grade 1 Calibrated HD Monitors
* Over 200TB SAN storage
Mastering and DCI
We are equipped to provide professional solutions for cinema and video mastering in all formats:
*2K/4K DCP Mastering, Interop and SMPTE with multi-language and subtitles support and KDM generation thanks to industry standard DVS Clipster hardware.
*HDCAM SR, HDCAM, Digital Betacam, BetacamSP, DVCAM, DVCPro VCRs
*Support for all codecs including DPX, Prores (all variants), MXF, etc.
